Why missed calls cost more than they look
A caller who reaches voicemail rarely leaves a message; most simply call the next business on the list. The call itself was the most expensive part of that lead, because you already paid for the ad, the listing or the referral that made the phone ring.
A text sent while the caller still has their phone in hand keeps the lead warm. It sets expectations ("we're with a patient, we'll call back at 4 pm") and, more importantly, lets them get what they wanted without waiting: a price, an opening time or a booking.
How it works
- Connect your line: forward unanswered calls to a number you control through Twilio, Plivo, Telnyx or Exotel (India), or point your provider's missed-call webhook at Nomisly.
- Nomisly looks up the caller: if they're an existing lead, the thread continues; if not, a new lead is created with the source "missed call".
- Within seconds the caller gets a WhatsApp template (or SMS) in their language: "Sorry we missed you. How can we help? Reply here or book a time: …"
- The AI assistant takes over the conversation within your rules, or a team member takes it with one tap from the inbox.
- Everything lands on the lead timeline, and the Revenue Recovered dashboard counts bookings that started as a missed call.
Compliance built in
Business-initiated WhatsApp messages must use an approved template; Nomisly ships pre-written utility templates for the missed-call case and submits them for approval from your account. SMS is disabled until you confirm local registration (A2P 10DLC in the US, DLT in India). Every reply includes an opt-out, and STOP in any supported language suppresses the number across all channels.
Set up missed-call text-back
- Connect WhatsApp through Embedded Signup.
- Add your phone provider or enable call forwarding to your Nomisly number.
- Pick the missed-call template and your business hours.
- Place a test call and let it ring out to see the reply arrive.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a new phone number?
No. Most businesses keep their number and add a conditional call-forward (on busy or no answer) to a number connected to Nomisly. If your provider supports webhooks for missed calls, you can connect it directly instead.
Will it text people who hang up after one second?
You decide. By default every unanswered call gets a reply, because short hang-ups are often people who gave up. You can set a minimum ring time and exclude numbers such as suppliers or staff.
Is it WhatsApp or SMS?
WhatsApp first because it's cheaper in most countries and supports buttons and booking links. SMS is a fallback for numbers not on WhatsApp, and only after you've completed the local sender registration.
What does it cost per message?
The Nomisly plan includes the feature. Meta or your SMS carrier charges per message at their published rates; with your own WhatsApp Business Account you pay Meta directly with no markup, and the live usage meter shows the cost.
Can the reply book an appointment?
Yes. The assistant offers open slots from your booking calendar and confirms in the chat. Two-way reminders then reduce no-shows.
Why do I get a text message after a missed call to a business?
Many businesses use missed-call text-back: when they can't pick up, their system texts you so you can continue by chat instead of calling again. Reply to it or ignore it; replying STOP opts you out.
What if the caller is an existing customer?
Nomisly matches the phone number to the existing lead or customer, continues that conversation and shows the history to your team.
