Lead follow-up: how many times, when, and what to say

Most quiet leads need three or four well-spaced follow-ups: about an hour later, the next day, three days later and a week later, each adding something useful and each stopping the moment the lead replies. After that, pause and send one relevant reactivation message 60 to 90 days later, only with consent.

WhenGoalExample
+1 hourMake it easy"Would you like me to hold Thursday 5 pm for you?"
+1 dayAnswer the likely objection"Most clients ask about the price: it's ₹6,000 with a free check-up."
+3 daysOffer a choice"Would a weekday or a weekend suit you better?"
+7 daysClose the loop"No problem if now isn't the time. I'll stop here; just reply when you're ready."

Rules that keep follow-ups welcome

  • Stop every sequence the moment the lead replies.
  • Honour STOP and similar words in every language, on every channel.
  • Don't send at night in the lead's time zone.
  • Cap messages per day and per week.
  • When a person takes over, pause automation.

Frequently asked questions

How many follow-ups is too many?

More than four in two weeks without any reply usually starts to annoy people. Pause and reactivate later instead.

Should follow-ups be on WhatsApp after 24 hours?

Yes, as approved templates; free-form messages are only allowed inside the 24-hour window.
